Today we checked out of our hotel in Palermo. My clothes did not dry at all so I had to ball them up all wet like. We took a bus to our next destination which is Catania. Along the way to Catania we stopped off at a large castle like building but as it was made in the Roman times it was not a castle but a large house owned by a wealthy patrician or equestrian. The house was not much to look at but the mosaic floors certainly were, all of the floors were very intricate mosaics. It was estimated to take up to ten years to finish some of the mosaics, can you imagine waiting ten years just to have a floor! Here are some pictures of those.
From far away they look like paintings but then you get closer and see all the tiny tesserae.
Poor mama tiger with the dead baby.
Satyr!
Tryclops?
After we left the massive house we continued on to Catania. The hotel we stayed at in Catania was amazing, we had massive rooms and a view to die for (plus Catania is a million times cleaner and less smelly than Palermo). There was a thunder storm I tried to take pictures of, I was mostly wildly unsuccessful but I got a few good shots. Here they are.
Yay lightning!
