Selinunte

Tuesday September 30th
Today we went to Selinunte, it took a few hours for the bus to get there but it was awesome. There are three ruins of temples here and the coolest part is you are allowed to climb all over them. This is the first archeological site we have gone to and it was such an experience to be able to touch these columns that were over thousands of years old. The exact name and dedication of these temples is not known but they were massive and obviously very important at one time. I was quite amused by all the lizards running around but unfortunately I am not quick enough to catch one. It was VERY hot out today so we ran from shade spot to shade spot, also none of us had sunscreen since we couldn't take it on the plane so most of us got pretty red by the end of the day.
Here are some pictures from the site, I apologize for the lack of editing I'm just trying to get caught up on the blogs. Enjoy!
Some really pretty flowers that you can find everywhere in Sicily.
Temple E if I'm not mistaken, the most intact of the three temples.
A closer look at the columns, these ones are doric order (you just learned something new, yay knowledge)
More of the columns (I'm a sucker for silhouettes and sunbursts)
The next temple that I can't remember the name of, it was just a pile of ruins and this one standing column. The clouds were great though.
 Lizard!
Ana walking through the ruins of the temple.
 Sorcha conquering the ruins.

After we visited the site we were all in much need of some nourishment and to cool off. What better place to do that than the beach. This beach was about 20 feet from the sites (though a cliff stood in our way) so we all billy goated down the cliff and hung out at the beach for the rest of the day. The water was absolutely amazing, it was perfect temperature for such a hot day. I think I spent a total of 3 hours in the water without getting out, which is a record for me considering my disdain for the beach. The best part about the beach though was that you could see through the water so I was sure that no sea animals were going to eat me. We all ended up a little bit redder than the start of the day but it was an amazing day. And here are some pictures from the beach.
Leo, being a ginger, burns very easily. So we all decided to help him out and cover him with sand and turn him into a mermaid at the same time.
Leo emerges from his beautiful mermaid cover up.
Can't go to a Mediterranean beach without some sea foam pictures.
Or some pictures of the beautiful coast.
Ana and Bailey didn't want to get out when it was about time to get back on the bus.
